British singer and songwriter Elton John and his partner David Furnish welcomed their second son on Friday, January 11, the couple confirmed on Wednesday. The couple, who have a two-year-old son named Zachary, welcomed Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John at 6:40 p.m. in Los Angeles, Hello! Magazine reported.
The bouncing baby boy weighed in at 8lb 4oz and was born via a surrogate the magazine reported. According to Los Angeles Times, the couple's son was born via the same surrogate as their first son.
John, 65, and Furnish, 50, confirmed the news to Hello! with the following statement, "Both of us have longed to have children, but the reality that we now have two sons is almost unbelievable. The birth of our second son completes our family in a most precious and perfect way. It is difficult to fully express how we are feeling at this time; we are just overwhelmed with happiness and excitement."
According to Hello!, the couple, who wed in 2005 after 12 years together, talked about expanding their family last summer. "I think it's difficult to be an only child, and to be an only child of someone famous," John said. "I want Zachary to have a sibling."
The couple's first-born son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was born in 2010. According to the LA Times, baby Elijah's full name references one of his father's most famous songs, just like his brother's.
Celebrity gossip site Hollywood Life reported that the couple was paid "mega bucks" by the British magazine for the first photos of the newborn and that all the money will head to the singer's charity, the Elton John Charitable Foundation. Hollywood Life also reported that John and Furnish recently purchased a swanky home in Beverly Hills for a whooping $7,695,000.
