America's arguably favorite sassy seven-year-old, Alana Thompson, better known as "Honey Boo Boo," has tickled the hearts of Americans around the country, including the LBGT community. Due to her folksy straight talk on "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," the TLC reality series has earned a 2013 GLAAD Media Award nomination in the "Outstanding Reality Program" category.
In an episode featuring Alana's openly gay uncle, Alana declared "Ain't nothing wrong with being a little gay. Everybody a little gay!" She and her family's progressive stance on gay rights have not gone unnoticed.
For the award, Honey Boo Boo will compete with Pregnant in Heels, Small Town Security, The Amazing Race and The Real L Word.
According to the gay rights group, the GLAAD Awards "recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives."
Also up for awards are Modern Family, The New Normal, Happy Endings and Go On along with The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Grey's Anatomy, Smash and True Blood and singers Frank Ocean and Adam Lambert.
