On Jan. 14 ForumOpera.com announced that legendary Spanish tenor Placido Domingo would add the baritone role of Luna in Verdi's Il Tovatore.

According to the website the 71 year old tenor would assume the role at the Berlin State Opera in November 2013. The tenor would be joined by reigning Diva Russian soprano Anna Netrebko in her role debut as Leonora.

The news comes after the announcement that Netrebko and Domingo would sing in concert performances of Verdi's Giovanna D'Arco at 2013 Salzburg Festival.

Domingo will add two other Verdi roles to his repertoire. First he will take on the role of Giorgio Germont in La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera in March and in April will assume the title role in Nabucco at the Royal Opera House in London.

Netrebko has recently been in headlines as she opened the Metropolitan Opera's new season in the new production of L'Elisir d'Amore. She was also recently interviewed in the Wall Street Journal and she stated that she was moving away from her old repertoire and assuming heavier roles. Some of those included Leonora in Il Trovatore and Tatiana in Eugene Onegin. The Diva returns to the Met in February for four performances of L'Elisir D'Amore with her real life partner Bass-Baritone Erwin Schrott before heading to Chicago for her house debut in her acclaimed portrayl of Mimi in La Boheme.

Domingo and Netrebko last performed together in 2008 for a summer concert alongside Mexican tenor Rolando Villazon.
