UPDATE: Snyder's representative recently denied the report and stated that Snyder will not direct the new Star Wars film. More later.
Director Zack Snyder ("300," "Watchman") has announced that he will be developing a Star Wars film that will take place outside the upcoming "Star Wars Episode VII." The report came from Vulture, an online rumors webiste.
Vulture did not reveal much information but stated that the film it would probably take place between "Star Wars Episode VI:Return of the Jedi" and the followup. It was also revealed that it will be influenced by "Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai." There was no indication of whether Snyder will direct or simply produce.
Lucasfilm did not confirm the news as they are still in the hunt for a director for their next film "Episode VII." In late October Lucasfilms announced they would be merging with Disney and would revamp the franchise. They stated that they wanted to make a Star Wars film every two to three years. Disney plans on releasing their new Star Wars Film in 2015.
Snyder's next film "Man of Steel" will be in theater in June and was produced by Christopher Nolan. "Man of Steel" tells the story an alien infant raised on Earth, and grows up with superhuman abilities. He sets out to use these abilities to guard his adopted world. He recently stated that he had no interest in directing "Episode VII."
