The big winner at the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards was "Argo." The film was awarded the Best Motion Picture Drama from the Hollywood Foreign Press and also took home the Best Director award for Ben Affleck.
"Les Misérables" came up with a big night as well. The film topped the Best Comedy/Musical Motion Picture Category and won two big acting awards. Hugh Jackman won the Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical Motion Picture and Anne Hathaway won the Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance as Fantine in "Les Misérables."
Daniel Day-Lewis took home the Best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture award for his portrayal in "Lincoln." It was his second award from the Hollywood Foreign Press in his career.
Jennifer Lawrence won the Golden Globe in the Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical category for her turn in "Silver Linings Playbook." Jessica Chastain won the Best Actress in a Drama for her performance in "Zero Dark Thirty." Both actresses won their first ever Golden Globe awards and are the Oscar front-runners.
Writer-Director Quentin Tarantino won the Best Screenplay Award for his film "Django Unchained." In the Best Supporting Actor category, Christoph Waltz took a surprise victory for his turn in Tarantino's film; he defeated front-runners Tommy Lee Jones and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. In his acceptance speech, Waltz thanked Tarantino and said, "The North Star is that one" as he pointed at his director.
Mychael Danna won his first Globe for his Best Original Score in "Life of Pi."Adele also picked up her first Golden Globe for Best Original Song in "Skyfall." Michael Haneke's "Amour" won Best Foreign Language Film. In the Best Animated Feature, Pixar's "Brave" took home a surprising victory.
TV Winners
"Girls" was a huge winner in the TV categories. The series won Best Comedy/Musical TV Show and Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical TV Series for her Lena Dunham's performance.
Showtime's "Homeland" was the other major winner with victories for Best TV Series Drama, Best Actor in a TV Series Drama (Damian Lewis), and Best Actress in a TV Series Drama (Claire Danes).
"Game Change" also took home three awards. The film won the award for Best TV Movie/Mini-Series and Julianne Moore picked up the Best Actress in TV Movie/Mini-Series for her turn as Sarah Palin. It was the second Golden Globe win of her career. Ed Harris also won the Best Supporting Actor award.
Don Cheadle won his second Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical TV Series for his performance in "House of Lies."
In the Best Actor in a TV Movie/Mini-Series, Kevin Costner won for "Hatfield and McCoys." In the Best Supporting Actress race, Maggie Smith won for her turn in "Downton Abbey." She was not on hand to receive her third career Golden Globe win.
President Bill Clinton made a surprise appearance to present Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln." Jodie Foster received the Cecil B. DeMille Life Achievement Award.
