Miss New York Mallory Hagan was crowned Miss America 2013 during the Miss America 2013 Beauty Pageant. In addition to the the title, she'll receive a $50,000 scholarship.
Miss New York had a few stunning moments. At one point she danced to a James Brown Song "Get Up Off That Thing." She wore tight leather black pants and went into a furious tap dance routine.
Her evening gown was an elegant white dress and stated that her style concept was "a cross between someone like Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez." She added that it was "prep, classic mix of the little jenny from the block."
During the question segment, she was asked about her opinions on gun control and a proposal to have an armed guard in every school. "Do you think that would make our schools safer?" she was asked. She responded, "I actually don't. I don't think the proper way to fight violence is with violence." She went on to add that "arming teachers in schools was not the right direction to take in the fight against gun violence in the country after the Newtown, Connecticut shootings."
She is the first Miss America from New York since 1984 when Vanessa L. Williams won the award and was also the first Black Miss America.
