Afghan President Hamid Karzai will speak at Georgetown University today at 5:30 p.m. EST in a live stream speech that viewers can watch online at Ustream.com.
"Karzai's evening talk will be 'Afghanistan Beyond 2014: A Perspective on Afghan-U.S. Relations,'" said the university.
Before the talk, Karzai met with President Obama for "bilateral meetings."
"President Obama looks forward to welcoming the Afghan delegation to Washington, and discussing our continued transition in Afghanistan, and our shared vision of an enduring partnership between the United States and Afghanistan," said the White House in a statement before the talks.
This will be Karzai's third trip to Georgetown. In 2006, he received an honorary degree from the university. Georgetown also "houses the U.S.-Afghan Women's Council, a public-private partnership created in 2002 by Karzai and then-President George W. Bush. The council connects the U.S. and Afghan governments, the private sector, academia, and non-governmental organizations to develop and implement initiatives in support of Afghan women and children," according to the university website.
Karzai has come under attack from both conservatives and liberals in the media, the public and Congress for his handling of the Afghan government after the U.S.-led invasion.
Karzai has been accused of mismanagement and abuses of power. Critics say he takes money from the United States meant for aid work and infrastructure and distributes it to his cronies in the government, all while assuring Islamic militants that he also opposes the Americans.
He has also been accused of election fraud, fostering the illegal drug trade, nepotism and embezzlement.
Viewers interested in proposing a question to Karzai can do so at the live stream site, though the moderators of the event have the final say on which queries are put to Karzai.
