Move over Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer, superhero-playing actors Henry Cavill ('Man of Steel') and Stephen Amell ('Arrow') are still among fans' favorite picks for the coveted role of Christian Grey in the film adaptation of '50 Shades of Grey.' In a recent fan poll conducted by Latinos Post, the two actors were among the most added to the list of serious contenders.
Cavill, who will star as Superman in the upcoming film 'Man of Steel' later this year, has spoken about the likelihood of playing the coveted role but seemed indifferent about his possible involvement. In November, the 29-year-old British actor told reporters, "Whether that happens, that decision will be made at the time it has to be made."
Meanwhile, Amell, who plays a crime-fighting arrow-wielding hero in the CW's 'Arrow,' has appeared eager to pick up the role. The 31-year-old Canadian actor told reporters, "I mean if you think about it, it would be four movies, the last part being two parts. I don't even own a house yet. So I don't think that I'd be turning that down any time soon."
Apart from the major paycheck, Amell added, "I got a link for a Christian Grey fan page, and they put a picture of me as Oliver Queen on there. I'm doing kind of an a**hole smirk, and it blew up. The 'likes' and the comments blew up."
The pair of evil-crushing superheroes however faces the daunting task of overtaking longtime favorites Ian Somerhalder ('The Vampire Diaries') and Matt Bomer ('White Collar'). Somerhalder and Bomer have long ruled fan favorite polls, including most by Latinos Post.
While fans continue to contemplate who will take up the role of the sexy domineering millionaire, the production team consisting of author E.L. James, screenwriter Kelly Marcel and producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti must finish the film's script and decide on who will take up the director's job. Casting rumors over who will play Christian Grey and his younger love interest Anastasia Steele have yet to lose steam since Universal Pictures and Focus Films bought the rights to the film earlier last year.
The highly anticipated first film in the series, '50 Shades of Grey,' has yet to pick a theater release date.
