Manchester United has long been a rumored destination for discontent Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, but there is one team that is continuing its major bid for the Ballon d'Or Candidate.
According to Goal.com's Stefan Ceorts, french club Paris Saint-Germain has been a major contender to nab the Portuguese star and is still intent on making the move happen. PSG director Leonardo stated in an interview with French Publication L'Equipe that "Paris Saint-Germain have become a club where anything is possible." He added that "When we are discussing a possible transfer for a player like Cristiano Ronaldo, there are only four or five clubs that can be taken into consideration. Paris Saint-Germain [is] one of those clubs ..."
When asked about Lionel Messi, Leonardo made it clear that Messi would "never leave Barcelona."
The team has been on a notable spending spree to bring in top end talent; Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva were among those players. The team has since enjoyed solid success in the French League and in the Champions League where it won Group A and is now slated for a round of 16 tilt with Valencia, a team it should easily defeat.
Back in December, reports indicated that PSG was reportedly willing to spend 125 million Euros. Ronaldo currently has a one billion euro buyout clause that makes him untouchable for most clubs. Ronaldo stated early on in the season that he was unhappy with Real Madrid. He has not yet been extended a new contract even though he still has two remaining on his current deal with Real Madrid.
