While many envy Alabama's AJ McCarron for being the first quarterback to win back to back BCS titles, there's a whole new crop of fans whose eyes are fixated on his biggest prize: his girlfriend. Miss Alabama herself, Katherine Webb saw her number of Twitter followers increase by over 100,000 following her brief moments in the limelight during the BCS game, surpassing even McCarron's Twitter count.
"My phone is dead. My followers went from 2,300 this morning to 96,000 by the end of the night. I don't know if I should even check now, I don't know what is going on," Webb told Yahoo! Sports.
At the time of this article's posting, Webb's Twitter followers amount to over 183,000. Alabama champion quarterback McCarron, on the other hand, has around 117,000.
So who is this Southern belle who managed to capture the attentions of both broadcasters and the general public?
Turns out that Katherine Webb, 23, is the 2012 Miss Alabama and a top 10-finisher in Miss America 2012. The former model, who competed for Miss Georgia USA in 2007, gave up pageantry for a period of time to pursue a degree, and has recently tweeted that she is done with beauty pageants, and is "on to the next [dream]!"
Her Miss Universe page reveals that she currently works at Chick-fil-A in Columbus, Ga and a look at her Twitter page shows she was recently offered a judge position at the Miss USA pageant in Las Vegas by none other than Mr. Trump himself.
So there you have it. Much like any instant celebrity, Katherine Webb will have the spotlight on her for a brief moment - we'll just have to see what she makes of it.
