Colombian Striker Radamel Falcao has been a hot commodity for Atletico Madrid to start the 2012-13 season. The striker has scored 17 goals on 55 shots in the Spanish league this season and has vaulted his squad to second place in the Spanish league. However, rumors have circulated for months about his impending transfer and it seems that Falcao is finally on his way out of Madrid after news confirmed that he has agreed to sign with Chelsea.
The Blues were in competition with Real Madrid and Manchester City to sign the striker and were willing to meet his 60 million euro buyout. They are also willing to pay the Colombian a whopping 200,000 euros a week as part of the deal which puts the ultimate rice tag at 45 million euros.
Chelsea is falling down the standings in the English Premier League and is in desperate need of someone to score. Striker Fernando Torres has played inconsistently to start the 2012-13 season and a great deal of criticism has been thrown his way. The Spanish striker had a stretch from the middle of October until the beginning of December in which he scored just once in 14 matches in all competitions. Falcao's 17 goals currently puts him ahead of Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo who only has 14 goals on the season and his insertion in the Chelsea lineup makes them a lethal squad.
One of the reasons behind Falcao's rejection of Real Madrid is the fact that life for his family could be difficult if he were make the crosstown switch.
"It would be a nightmare for him to live in Madrid," said former Atletico winger Paulo Futre.
