When fans think of Jennifer Lopez, it's usually in the sense of what award she is nominated for this year. This year isn't any different, but this is probably not a recognition that the award-winning actress / singer / dancer wants to win.
Latin Times is reporting that the 46-year-old actress is up for a Golden Raspberry or Razzie for her role in the movie "Boy Next Door." However, fans of Lopez shouldn't be too worried as she has very good company in that category.
According to Life and Style, along with Lopez, the other nominees in the Worst Actress Category include Katherine Heigl for "Home Sweet Hell," Dakota Johnson for "Fifty Shades of Grey," Mila Kunis for "Jupiter Ascending" and Gwyneth Paltrow for "Mortdecai."
"The Boy Next Door" was a suspense thriller that dealt with several sensitive issues. The biggest issue that the movie touched on was that Lopez's character is a high school teacher who ends up sleeping with a high school student who happens to be the son of her next door neighbor.
While many critics are saying that subject matter can actually be true enough considering today's society, the biggest fall of the film is the performance of both the leading actors. Lopez seems distant and flat while Ryan Guzman, who plays Noah, comes off comical rather than creepy in most scenes.
The film flopped in the box office, only earning US$52 million compared to its US$4 million budget. It also currently only holds a 10 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, thus holding a certified rotten title.
Surprisingly enough, if Lopez were to win the award, it would not be the first time she has won the Worst Actress category. According to the Razzie homepage, Lopez "won" Worst Actress in 2003 for her role in the box office flop "Gigli."
"Gigli" went on to win six Razzie awards that year and is widely considered to be the beginning of the end of Lopez's relationship to actor Ben Affleck who also starred in the film.
As per tradition, the Golden Raspberry winner will be announced on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, which is the night before the Academy Awards. It must also be said that "winners" rarely claim their award, but some have been known to attend the ceremony for fun.
