Pau Gasol is one player who finds himself in an elite class of players who may have already fulfilled any cager’s dream, that of which is to win an NBA championship.
Aside from that, Gasol is someone who has been around and likely to be playing out the final years of his NBA career. At 35 and standing all of seven feet, injuries are the only thing that can perhaps cut his NBA career short.
Through the years, Gasol has had his ups and downs, and a lot of that came when he was still with the Los Angeles Lakers. Not that he was churning out subpar performances but more on the fact that he was with a high-profile NBA club.
After he was hit for being soft, Gasol seems to have found a comfortable new home in Chicago. He isn’t the top dog over there right now if one recalls his days with the Memphis Grizzlies from 2001 to 2008, but he doesn’t seem to mind.
Gasol proved that he could play alongside the greats, Kobe Bryant in particular, with the Lakers. That partnership of course produced two NBA titles, a rarity for some players who don’t get the change to vie for a title.
Summing it up, Gasol has had one heck of a career, and the experience he has collected is something that the Bulls can certainly learn from.
Gasol continues to do his stuff with the likes of Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler but knows that he needs to find a way to guide the others through example if they are to savor the same success that he had with the Lakers.
The Bulls are currently at third spot in the Eastern Conference standings and are likely to make it to the NBA playoffs again. However, everyone knows the story of the Bulls last season, ending up short. This year, Gasol hopes their fortunes change.
“Can we show it for the next 40-some games that we have left in the regular season and going into the playoffs, can we continue to do that?” says Gasol via the Chicago Sun-Times.
There are a lot of things to consider this year though. One is that the Bulls are handled by a new coach in Fred Hoiberg. There are some who believe that Hoiberg hasn’t really been as effective as the one he replaced, Tom Thibodeau. Then again, one year doesn’t define what Hoiberg brings.
Right now, all Gasol wants to do is lead by example, and hopefully Butler, Rose and the rest of the guys will follow suit so that the Bulls can at least gain another NBA title.
