Mark Hamill Joins 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'

"Star Wars" veteran and former star of "Batman: The Animated Series" Mark Hamill is returning to voice acting for the latest incarnation of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle" animated franchise.

The 64-year-old actor confirmed on his Twitter account that he will be playing a character named Kavaxas, Demodragon of the Underworld. The actor made a joke in his post, stating if there is a chance that his character is a good guy or not.

With the name and character art for Kavaxas, it is most likely that he is going to be a villain in the show. Most fans already know that Hamill is no stranger to lending his voice to a villain as he is best known for his work on the 90's cartoon show "Batman: The Animated Series", where he played Batman's nemesis The Joker.

According to Comic Book, the incarnation of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is now on its fifth season on the kid's channel Nickelodeon. This series has taken a few queues from previous "TMNT" series but with a few twists as well.

In this version, Splinter starts out as he human Hamoto Yoshi who is living in New York when an alien race called the Kraang invade. Yoshi and his four turtle pets are changed when they are exposed to a mutagenic ooze during an altercation with the aliens, causing them to change drastically. Yoshi changes to a rat while the turtles take a humanoid form.

Comic Book Resources states that the show has garnered mostly positive reviews. This is mainly due to its diverse and talented cast. Hamill joins an already star-studded cast that includes Sean Astin ("Lord of the Rings"), Seth Green ("Austin Powers" and "Robot Chicken"), Eric Bauza ("GI: Joe Retaliation") and Kelly Hu ("The Vampire Diaries").

Jason Biggs ("American Pie") was also attached to the show as the voice of Leonardo for seasons one to three but has since left the show and been replaced by Seth Green.

Other than the character art sketch, nothing much else is known about Hamill's character. While it is pretty safe to assume that the character will be a villain, looks can always be deceiving. Fans will have to find out when "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" returns for its fifth season on Nickelodeon during the fall season of 2016.
