President Barack Obama spoke shortly after 3:15 p.m. EST in regards to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
According to Connecticut Police Lieutenant Paul Vance, 20 children and seven adults were killed in the school.
"These children are our children and we're going to have to come together to take meaningful action," said President Obama.
He added that the children will unfortunately never experience the upcoming holidays, graduation, and all that life has to offer.
He ended his speech with, "In the words of scripture, heal the broken-hearted and bind up their wounds."
Obama's speech featured pauses, signifying the emotions running through as a fellow parent to two children.
Twitter has responded to President Obama's speech:

How dare you criticize President Obama over that speech. This isn't about politics, it's about protecting the most innocent in our country.
