The year 2016 looks good for TV.
With each new year comes new TV shows, and 2016 is no different. The year is filled with a host of highly anticipated series. From revivals to new projects, there is no exception.
Below are the five TV shows we're thrilled to see this 2016.
1. The X-Files
"The X-Files" will premiere on January 24 on Fox. For those of you who don't know, the new "X-Files" is a reboot of the hit '90s sci-fi series starring FBI detective duo Scully and Mulder investigating the paranormal. In the reboot, both Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are returning as the beloved detective duo. The new "X-Files" will also see new stars including Joel McHale, as well as a wide array of monsters and twists, as seen on teasers from Entertainment Weekly.
The year 2008's "I Want to Believe" film was the last attempt at a revival for the famous series. However, at Cannes' annual trade show MIPCOM (Marché Internationale de Programmes Communications or in English, International Market of Communications Programmes), the show received an ecstatic welcome, suggesting a much-awaited return.
2. Vinyl
"Vinyl" premieres February 14 on HBO, filling in for "Game of Thrones" Season 6.
From "Boardwalk Empire" producers Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter, the 10-part mini series about the story of the president of a record company in the 1970s will be helmed by Martin Scorsese, Allen Coulter and Carl Franklin, among others.
Stars set to appear in the TV show include Olivia Wilde as Devon Finestra and Bobby Cannavale as aspiring record producer Richie Finestra adamant to promote his new band.
Perhaps because Mick Jagger is executive producer of the show, much is expected of it, although viewers can definitely expect much from "Vinyl" since it already promised to feature every drama that came with the music industry in Seventies New York, including sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll.
3. American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson
The show is set to premiere on February 2 on FX.
According to TIME, "American Crime Story" could be the most star-studded of 2016, but it's not for this reason alone that many viewers are excited to watch the show.
Likely to become the most talked about in 2016, Slash Film reported that the true crime anthology mini series has already brought in "major buzz" because of Ryan Murphy, who's one of the brains behind hit series "American Horror Story," "Nip/Tuck," "Glee" and "Scream Queens."
As suggested by its title, the show's first season, "The People v. OJ Simpson," will show a behind-the-scenes look into the former American footballer's (Cuba Gooding Jr.) famous trial. His lawyer, Robert Shapiro, will be played by John Travolta. Other A-list cast include Sarah Paulson, David Schwimmer, Connie Britton and Nathan Lane.
4. The Catch
On this list because of Shonda Rhimes, creator of "How to Get Away With Murder," "Scandal" and "Grey's Anatomy."
"The Catch" will premiere on March 24 on ABC.
Starring Mireille Enos of "The Killing," Shondaland's latest endeavour follows the story of a fraud investigator (Enos) who may have been tricked by her own fiancé.
5. The Crown
The premiere date of "The Crown" on Netflix is still unknown, but surely it will appear in 2016.
News about Peter Morgan's drama about Queen Elizabeth II started way back 2014, and now all this waiting is finally coming to fruition. Estimated to have cost exactly £100 million in production, "The Crown" could be the most expensive show made about the Queen from 1947 to the present, according to The Telegraph. If so, the series' creators would have likely pulled out all the stops to make the story the best one yet.
"The Crown" is set to run for a span of six years, with 60 episodes to watch out for. Series 1 will include stars Claire Foy (Princess Elizabeth), Matt Smith (Prince Philip) and John Lithgow (Winston Churchill) as major characters.
