How Should Dogs Wear Pants?

It took a while for social media users to get over "The Dress." Now, there's another dilemma plaguing netizens and setting the Internet on fire anew.

The online hoopla still involves apparel but, this time, regarding canines - the kind you get as a pet. The question is this: If a dog wore pants, would it wear them on its hind legs or on all four legs?

The question came with an image, shared on Twitter Monday night. The one who tweeted the meme, Maxim's Jared Keller, didn't think the query was particularly exciting. As such, he was genuinely surprised it took off the way it did.

"I'm not the original creator of this image," Keller clarified. "It was shared on my Facebook News Feed by a high school friend from a page called Doggo fight, which shared it from a page called Utopian Raspberry - Modern Oasis Machine (read: UR-MOM)."

"A page admin named Norbert claimed that he created the original image after spotting a dog wearing pants in his neighborhood," he added.

The online publication went on to reveal that Norbert said he made the image at around 2 or 3 in the morning, spurred by the thought that since dogs didn't have arms, their pants should logically be worn on all four legs. The illustration he made was his attempt to try both versions.

On the post skyrocketing to viral status, this was what he had to say: "I honestly didn't expect it to become so popular. I'm just glad people found it entertaining."

Keller went on to say that after tweeting the photo, it got retweeted more than 11,000 times within just two hours.

"As of Tuesday morning, my Twitter mentions are a war zone, and desktop Twitter clients like Tweetdeck are crashing while trying to keep up with notifications," Keller said.

The Washington Post noted that Norbert found it surprising that majority of those who gave their opinions on the dog-wearing pants issue were "right" in choosing the second option (wearing pants on just its hind legs). The image's creator had since said he's "quite neutral" over the dilemma and just mainly wanted to know what other people thought.

Keller, based on a Twitter poll he conducted, also confirmed that majority of those who participated thought that the second option was the right answer (pants on hind legs).

However, on Reddit, the most popular comment opted for the first option, which is the one on the left side of the image. The reason, according to the Redditor, is that pants were invented by humans and if dogs were to wear them like we do, the one on the right would logically be the correct answer. But if dogs invented their own version of the pants, the one on the left would probably be the most fitting option.
