Former "Glee" actor Mark Salling, who played Noah "Puck" Puckerman on the hit TV series, was apprehended by authorities on Tuesday for possession of child pornography, CNN reported.
"Salling, 33, was arrested in Sunland, California, a Los Angeles neighborhood just north of Burbank. Bail was set at $20,000," the news source said. He was arrested by the LAPD Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force after a search warrant was acquired for his residence.
The Washington Post noted that the actor was processed at LA's downtown jail. No other information was released in the wake of his arrest, although TMZ said authorities said they've "already seen more than a thousand images of "child sexual exploitation" on Salling's computer."
"Cops also seized other electronic devices, including tablets and cellphones. We're also told he lives alone, which will make it hard to argue someone else put the images in the computer," the entertainment news portal went on, adding that Salling was "shocked" when the police arrived with the search warrant.
Sources of the site revealed that an ex-girlfriend of the actor allegedly gave the authorities the crucial tip that led to an investigation to verify the claim. It's also been said that the incriminating images were of children "significantly younger than 15 and 16 year olds."
Further, it was also reported that the home raided by the police belonged to Jonathan Hernandez, the actor's roommate since 2011, MailOnline said.
In 2013, Salling was sued for sexual battery by former girlfriend Roxanne Gorzela. He denied the charges and submitted a cross-complaint, The Washington Post said. However, he settled the legal case earlier this year and was ordered to pay $2.7 million.
It is not known whether Gorzela is the same ex-girlfriend who tipped off the police.
Salling's bail was set at $20,000, which he posted at about 2:30 p.m. on the same day of his arrest, Just Jared said. A January 22 court date has been set for his case.
"Salling played Puck on 'Glee' throughout the show's six-season run from 2009 to 2015," CNN noted. "Puck, a bullying football player on the McKinley High team, is initially resistant to the school's glee club -- seen as a haven for misfits -- but later follows his best friend, quarterback Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith), into the group."
The actor reportedly grew up in a "strict Christian home" and was home schooled. He later attended an LA music academy after graduating from high school in Dallas ,Texas. He went on to study the guitar and earned his keep giving guitar lessons. He later landed acting roles that jumpstarted his acting career.
