In a bold move by the show's frontrunners, the long-running children's educational TV show 'Sesame Street' will be premiering on HBO when its 46th season debuts.
According to IGN, the show had been exclusively on PBS for its previous 45 seasons. The show will now have different formatting, as HBO has decided to go with a 30-minute episode rather than the 60-minute format that the show had been running.
However, those who are not subscribed to HBO should not worry. Screen Crush reports that there has been a deal made with PBS and HBO for the new episodes to air on PBS nine months after they premiere on HBO.
HBO has also confirmed that they will be airing classic "Sesame Street" episodes on their online affiliate HBO Go / Now. However, it is not known at this time if HBO Go / Now will be showing the classic 70's Sesame Street, which has now been deemed inappropriate for young children by the ratings board.
Having the popular children's show on a larger network like HBO does have its good points. Looking at the show's trailer, "Sesame Street's" production value has risen considerably.
Also, while "Sesame Street" has always had the ability to attract popular entertainers over the years, several large stars from both Hollywood and music are set to make guest appearances during the course of the next season.
Confirmed to be making cameos during the season include: musicians Pharell, Gwen Stefani and Nick Jonas as well as actors Alan Cummings, Tine Fey, and Gina Rodriguez.
A new cast member will also be joining the neighborhood as Nina, played by Suki Lopez, will be moving into "Seasme Street."
Brown Johnson, executive vice president of Sesame Workshop, states that Nina is a witty, compassionate, and charismatic role model who will come up with out of the box solutions for the problems that the "Sesame Street" crew go through
A new muppet is also rumored to join the cast in the form of Julia, a muppet who is going through the daily battle of Autism. The character was developed in a joint collaboration with Sesame Workshop and several Autism organizations to raise awareness of the illness within the younger generation.
The 46th season of "Sesame Street" is set to debut on Jan. 16, 2016 on HBO.
