The Golden Globes have announced their award nomination for 2012. Lincoln led the pack with 7 nominations putting it as the frontrunner. Argo and Django Unchained received five apiece while Les Miserables, Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark Thirty received four nominations.
The Hollywood Foregin Press which votes for the Globes, has a tendency to go with A list stars and their nominations this year proved once again that this was their priority. Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz as well as Quentin Tarentino were all nominated while indie hit Beasts of the Southern Wild were shut out of the race. Ann Dowd for Compliance was also shut out in favor of Nicole Kidman's performance for The Paperboy. The song category also proved star studded with Keith Urban, Adele, Jon Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift all being nominated for their respective songs.
Other categories were filled with few surprises. Daniel Day Lewis, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway and Tommy Lee Jones standout as the frontrunners for their respective categories.
The Master stars Joaquin Phoenix, and Amy Adams regained momentum after being shutout from the SAG awards and still have a chance at Oscar nominations. Rachel Weisz also surprised and still has hope for an Oscar nomination for her turn in The Deep Blue Sea. Marion Cotillard, Helen Mirren and Naomi Watts look like solid Oscar nominees while Denzel Washington, and John Hawkes continue to look like locks at the Oscars.
As stated Django received five nominees and regained momentum for the best picture nomination after being shut out from the SAG awards. Still the supporting actors seem improbable especially after being ignored at the SAG awards.
The Best Picture Comedy nominees include The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Les Miserables, Moonrise Kingdom, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and Silver Linings Playbook. The Best Picture Drama nominees include Argo, Django Unchained, Life of Pi, Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty.
