Before 2015 ends, Lionsgate made the effort of announcing that the upcoming "Power Rangers" reboot will be delayed, as is the case with "Ascendant."
"The 'Divergent Series: Ascendant' has shifted from its original release date of March 24, 2017 to June 9, 2017, where it will face 'World War Z 2' that weekend," ComingSoon reported. "In addition, the big screen reboot of 'Power Rangers' has moved from its January 13, 2017 release to that just-vacated March 24 slot."
"It will face Universal's reboot of 'The Mummy' on that date," the site added.
The fact that production issues were not the cause for the 2-month delay in the upcoming film's release should give fans some relief - and perhaps a bit of impatience. After all, this is the second time that the "Power Rangers" flick has been delayed. It was previously slated for a July 22, 2016 release, according to Variety.
"Lionsgate and Saban Brands announced the 'Power Rangers' project in 2014," the entertainment news source said. The studio has tapped Dean Israelite to direct and cast five young actors to star - Becky G. as the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger and R.J. Cyler as the Blue Ranger."
The said film has been described as "a modern reinvention" of the franchise.
"In it, a group of ordinary high school kids find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world," SuperHeroHype relayed. "Original creator Haim Saban is acting as producer along with Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur."
The movie had been the subject of much speculation by fans of the series since the announcement. There was much navel-gazing over who should play the five Rangers, with the likes of Liam Hemsworth and Chloe Grace Moretz rumored to be cast in the lead parts.
However, the makers of the reboot decided to take on fresh faces instead of established young stars. There have been speculations that the main villain in the flick may likely be a bigger star.
The franchise originated from the hit "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" series released in 1993. It later went on to become "the most-watched children's television program in the United States and remains one of the top-rated and longest running boys live-action series in television history," SuperHeroHype noted.
