"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is slated for release in theaters soon, and new rumors regarding its characters are already starting to pop up. A new report has theorized that Rey, the new female heroine, could be Luke Skywalker's daughter.
WARNING: "STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS" SPOILERS AHEAD!
It's pretty obvious by now that Rey is key to the Resistance's war against The First Order, but her future remains unknown.
According to Movie Pilot, one possible future for Rey is that she's Luke Skywalker's daughter, a rumor that began since her character was announced in "Star Wars 7."
The website states the following reasons for the theory:
- Rey's Story Is The Same As Luke's
Rey's emotional journey in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is told beginning in the planet Jakku, where Rey lives in dismal poverty and scavenges for junk to trade for food. She is also shown lonely in the film, with no family whose return she still waits for.
Finn, another new protagonist, accidentally crashes on her planet. He meets Rey and both their lives are changed forever. This begins Rey's journey into becoming a heroine as she discovers her powers - one of the film's biggest highlights. However, at the beginning, she tries to run away from her responsibility, which is just like what happened to Luke in "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope."
She was also shown using the Force to gain protection from Kylo Ren's torture during their final climactic battle, which was also what happened to Luke in "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi" where he battled with Darth Vader.
- Rey Reaches Out To Luke
This happens as the film ends. It could mean a lot of things, one of which is that the connection between Rey and Luke could be as father and daughter.
- Kylo Ren Is Fascinated With Rey
This is pretty obvious because of Rey's strong inclination with the Force. However, as the film began, Kylo Ren already sensed her full potential, which could reportedly mean that he already knows her.
This could also mean that Ren's fascination stems from the possibility that he knows Rey is his cousin, and he wants her to join him at the Dark Side of the Force.
- Rey Has A Close Connection With Leia
Another clue that the website pointed out is Rey hugs Leia immediately when he sees her, even though she never met the Resistance general before. While this could be because of Rey's close connection to Han Solo and that she felt guilty for his death after he was killed by his own son, it could also be that Rey sensed Leia was her aunt.
As per IMDb, the "Star Wars: Force Awakens" cast includes John Boyega (Finn), Daisy Ridley (Rey), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (General Leia), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong'o (Maz Kanata), Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke) and Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), among others.
