"How To Train Your Dragon 3" spoilers and rumors are making headlines again. New reports are claiming that "How To Train Your Dragon 3" is expected to make fans cry.
Writer and Director Dean Deblois confirmed as much when he sat down with Collider. He revealed that "How To Train Your Dragon 3" will revolve around Hiccup's final evolution into an adult.
"[Dragon 3 is] the culmination of Hiccup's coming of age. Both he and Toothless are now chiefs of their respective tribes, and it's a dueling story where you have both characters trying to do what's right for their kind, and an eventual outcome where Hiccup is able to stand on his own," Deblois shared.
Being able to "stand on his own" means Hiccup would have no need of Toothless anymore. As for Toothless, the dragon could be left having a difficult time leading his own tribe while staying independent from Hiccup.
As noted by the Christian Post, Deblois' statement could also hint at "How To Train Your Dragon 3" putting an end to Hiccup and Toothless' friendship, since the two would be pre-occupied leading their tribes, thus putting conflict in their friendship.
Deblois also said in the interview that Drago Buldvist will be returning, along with his "ruthless plans." If rumors of Toothless and Hiccup ending their friendship is true, the return of a villain could have the two joining forces again to defeat an antagonist, so there could still be a happy ending there.
However, there could be another sad addition to the plot of "How To Train Your Dragon 3." Since Deblois said the film will end the same way as the novels written by Cressida Cowell, then humans will eventually find dragons disappearing in the end.
"'We're gonna take the story to where the books begin, which is Hiccup as an adult reflecting back on a time where there were dragons, suggesting that the dragons will in some way go away. Why and if they could come back and the mystery of what all that is will be saved for the actual story," Deblois said.
According to Movie News Guide, Cowell confirmed that while the film franchise didn't stay faithful to the book in many aspects, she made sure that the endings are the same.
Another "How To Train Your Dragon 3" rumor is Toothless' possible love interest, and as noted by the Venture Capital Post, this could provide some reprieve to fans with all the sad rumors going on.
"How To Train Your Dragon 3" is slated for release on June 29, 2018.
"How to Train Your Dragon 3" is set to take place three years following "Dragon 2."
