Although appearing unscathed in his latest victory over Jose Aldo at UFC 194, Conor McGregor actually injured his left wrist. He might be medically suspended for six months or until cleared by a physician.
Washington Post reported that McGregor used a straight left punch to knock out Aldo and continued to hammer the latter after the fall. The new featherweight champion is required to take an X-ray exam. If the results show that he has an injured hand or wrist, he might be forced to stay out of the Octagon for several months.
John Kavanagh, McGregor’s coach, actually planned for him to fight again in spring 2016. McGregor is said to be eyeing the lightweight belt.
“I do think the next one will be lightweight for the belt. Maybe that’s going to be around April. March, April, something like that.” Kavanagh said. The coach added that he doubts that McGregor would wait until June or July to fight again. He may face Frankie Edgar or have a rematch against Aldo at UFC 200 in July.
If McGregor is placed on medical suspension, he will have enough time to begin his stint in Hollywood. Yahoo reported that the flashy Irishman is rumored to appear in Vin Diesel’s upcoming sequel film to “xXx.” Vin Diesel recently hinted on Instagram that he may be working with the UFC star in the near future. There are reports that McGregor verbally agreed to have a role in Diesel’s next movie, although nothing is official at the moment.
Another Hollywood star may also be working with McGregor soon. Mark Wahlberg revealed that it is very possible that he may be working with the MMA champ if the latter was given the right role. Conor has been getting a lot of raves lately, especially due to his loud personality and controversial comments outside the Octagon. Wahlberg has starred in and produced a number of sports or fitness-related films, so it would not be too difficult to find a suitable role for McGregor in his future projects, CBS Sports noted. With Conor’s recent success over Aldo, ratings of movies where he will most likely appear in are expected to go up significantly.
Conor also recently won a cover spot on EA Sports’ “UFC 2” game with Ronda Rousey. Rousey, in particular, has appeared in a number of films.
More updates and details on McGregor’s health and movie projects are expected soon.
