The official "Suicide Squad" synopsis has been released by DC Entertainment this week, and it shows a possibly doomed mission for the team of superpowered criminals, as noted by Digital Spy.
The synopsis reads as follows, via Comicbook.com.
"It feels good to be bad...Assemble a team of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity."
"U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren't picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it's every man for himself?"
The villain-centric DC movie is written and directed by David Ayer, who also helmed "Fury."
"Suicide Squad" features an A-list cast including Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jared Leto (The Joker), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Adam Beach (Slipknot), Jay Hernandez (Diablo) and Karen Fukahara (Katana).
While the film features an all-star cast, the most talked about and anticipated by fans is Jared Leto's take on The Joker, which as seen in the trailer, is something to watch out for. Previous news reports have also highlighted Leto's unusual activities off-cam, which had other cast members weirded out.
Ike Barinholtz, who is rumored to play Hannibal "Everyman" Bates in "Suicide Squad," recently revealed details of the shoot when he sat down with Howard Stern on his show last week, according to Hit Fix.
Barinholtz said Leto, whose character is in love with Harley Quinn, gave her a weird present delivered by another character working for The Joker. The character gave Margot Robbie a box and when she opened it, it was a "live, giant black rat...And we're like, 'What the f--k is going on? That's crazy!'"
In addition, Leto gave the rest of the cast a dead pig 20 minutes following Robbie's rat. While The Joker's assistant puts the pig on a table surrounded by other cast members, Barinholtz said bullets started coming out of the pig's head "in a rehearsal space a month before we started shooting."
However, as reported by Design & Trend, it isn't all "weird" off-set.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje told The Hollywood Reporter that the cast was provided with a special "rec-room" in order for them to bond.
"Suicide Squad" is slated for release on August 5, 2016.
