The upcoming film “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” just keeps getting bigger. After the supervillain Doomsday was spotted in a recent trailer, a new update hinted that he might not be the biggest threat in the plot yet.
Premiere France posted a new tweet that production designer Patrick Tatopoulos suggested that there is a larger threat beyond Doomsday in “Batman v Superman.” There will be another villain, who may even be stronger, who will appear in the final act of the film.
Tatopoulos had an interview with Premiere where he shared some interesting hints regarding Doomsday’s appearance in “Batman v Superman.” The production designer also seemed to dismiss theories that the events may later lead to the “Death of Superman” story arc. He explained that they were able to tell a story in a fresh manner. Doomsday is essentially an evolution. Although fans are aware of the story involving Superman’s death, they managed the arc in a new way.
ComicBookMovie cited that it seems that Tatopoulos may be referring to how Doomsday evolves when Lex Luthor transforms General Zod’s body into the powerful monster, instead of the form that is more consistent with his counterpart in the comic book during the last battle.
“When the film is called Batman v or versus Superman, it really has a lot of levels to the meaning. Superman isn't just killed off at the end of something. We see how he evolves as part of Lex's plan to protect the world. Seeing the Superman we know, be gone, and then replaced with this reproduction is really going to make fans think of how we look at these super beings. It was especially interesting to figure out, how would you create Superman from Zod... then how would that involve into Doomsday." Tatopoulos said.
He continued that there will a larger threat present and the timeframe of how the events will happen will surprise viewers. Tatopoulos said that Doomsday is not just the last act.
Cinema Blend noted that based on the trailers, Luthor initially tried to put Superman down through Batman. When it does not work, he goes for General Zod’s body to create Doomsday. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman then unite to fight the growing threat. Fans are expecting that a new supervillain like Brainiac or Darkseid might be introduced somewhere in the film to pose a more serious challenge to the DC superheroes.
“Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” will launch on Mar. 25, 2016.
