The Enterprise gang is back, and it looks like fun tagged along with them, despite the fact that their mission is no less dangerous.
For one, the trailer to the upcoming sequel "Star Trek Beyond" is "scored to the Beastie Boys' blaring 'Sabotage'" and "is advertising itself as a freewheeling action-adventure, as if trying to avoid the moody tone of the previous entry, 'Star Trek Into Darkness'," The Atlantic observed.
"'Star Trek Beyond' lives on with the sterling cast he assembled (which also includes Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, and John Cho), and with the director's reins now in the hands of Justin Lin, who helmed the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth Fast & Furious movies," the publication went on to note.
It can be recalled that the 2009 "Star Trek," which was directed by "Star Wars: The Force Awakens'" J.J. Abrams, also featured the same Beastie Boys ditty, which got observers thinking perhaps the fun is back in this installment.
Not much is known about the upcoming film, and the clip has been seen as unhelpful in terms of supplying hints of what's to come. However, the opening song may be a clue of the things that lie ahead, especially to eagle-eyed fans of the science fiction saga.
"It's hard to paste together what exactly is going on in this story," The Guardian offered. "But it looks like our gang with 'no ship' and 'no crew' are on a hostile planet, with more of those weirdo looking small ships coming to get them."
The new installment features new cast members Idris Elba ("Luther"), Sofia Boutella ("Kingsman: The Secret Service"), and Joe Taslim ("The Raid: Redemption").
"Boutella in particular features prominently in the trailer as a white-skinned alien with some serious martial-arts skills, and can be seen punching, kicking, and otherwise showing off the talents that made her one of the standout actors in last year's 'Kingsman,'" Digital Trends pointed out.
The clip somehow promises new adventures ahead for the crew, as evidenced by living ships that look nothing like previous ones in the franchise and a "swarm of ramming enemy vessels," The Guardian noted.
Also, it appears the USS Enterprise will get destroyed once again.
"Star Trek Beyond" will arrive in theaters July 22, 2016, in time for the film franchise's anniversary. Chris Pine reprises his role as Captain James T. Kirk while Zachary Quinto returns as Spock. Zoe Saldana is also back as Uhura.
