Former child star Abigail Breslin will have the time of her life as she was chosen to star in the remake of "Dirty Dancing."

According to an article by BBC News, Abigail Breslin will play the lead role of Baby Houseman in the upcoming remake of "Dirty Dancing". The star who shot to fame with movie "Little Miss Sunshine" and TV series "Scream Queens" will finally have her first major starring role.

In an interview she did with Entertainment Weekly before, Breslin talked about how she loved making movies as a child, as well as her experience so far about growing up while the whole world is watching.

"I always liked making movies when I was younger and it was always really fun to me but when I was 12, I did this movie called My Sister's Keeper and that was the movie where I realized I didn't just like making movies, I liked acting," Breslin revealed. "My family has been really important in keeping me normal."

The iconic 1987 movie will be remade for TV by ABC network. The movie will be directed by Wayne Blair who is responsible for the 2012 film "The Sapphires."

"Set in the summer of 1963, Dirty Dancing is the song-and-dance love story about 17-year-old Baby, originally played by Jennifer Grey, who falls for her working-class dance instructor, Johnny Castle - played by Patrick Swayze," the report said.

The movie took Swayze to super stardom and also gave him the chance to be a recording artist when he sang one of the soundtracks of the film "She's Like The Wind".

The "Dirty Dancing" remake will be choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler while Glee's Adam Anders and Peer Astrom will be responsible for the music. Executive producers include Allison Shearmur, who is also behind "Hunger Games" and "Cinderella".

In an article by Yahoo, it looks like ABC network has been developing the "Dirty Dancing" movie for quite some time now. They reportedly began to seek talents a year ago. The 19-year-old young actress was booked for the leading lady role while Swayze's character has not been filled yet, but insiders said there is a list of high-profile talents to choose from.

The original "Dirty Dancing" movie was directed by Emile Ardolino and reportedly had a budget of $6 million. Given the small budget, the movie was able to grow into a worldwide phenomenon and grossed around $214 million.
