"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is not the only movie opening this month and probably running through the Christmas season. A slew of new movies are slated to be released in time for this holiday season.
With that, here are the new releases that are worth your time this Christmas 2015.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens"
This movie bears repeating as this is many years overdue. As such, it comes with heavy anticipation by "Star Wars" fans, making this possibly "the biggest film of the year, or maybe the decade," The Guardian noted.
"It's the movie that many think George Lucas should have given us in 1999, instead of the massive creative mistake that was the prequel-trilogy beginning with 'The Phantom Menace,'" the British publication went on to add.
The film will be released December 18 in the US.
"Joy"
Who doesn't like real life rags-to-riches stories? During the Christmas season, they warm up hearts and make you want to hug your loved ones, thanks to those feel-good vibes. On Christmas Day, one such movie will drop in theaters, starring the very watchable Jennifer Lawrence and her usual on-screen leading man, Bradley Cooper. Will this score her yet another Oscar? Watch this on December 25 to know the answer.
"Krampus"
"According to ancient European folklore, Krampus is the evil twin, or wicked brother, or anyway the dark mirror-image of Santa Claus himself," The Guardian said. "He is Mr Hyde to Santa's Dr Jekyll. Where Santa rewards good little boys and girls with presents, Krampus will punish wrongdoers horribly."
The film is currently showing in theaters since December 4.
"Snoopy & Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie"
This animated feature, showing December 21, is perfect for the entire family. Enough said.
"In the Heart of the Sea"
This movie, showing on December 11, is based on a novel that was inspired by a real-life ship sinking caused by an encounter with a huge whale.
"Ron Howard's film tells of how the crew survived 90 days at sea," Swide described. "The cast is led by Chris Hemsworth, with Cillian Murphy, Tom Holland, Brendan Gleeson, and Ben Whishaw in the role of Herman Melville."
Perhaps at the end of this movie, you'll be inspired to count your blessings this Christmas.
"Daddy's Home"
This can be funny and compelling at the same time, thanks to Will Ferrell's casting as a stepfather needing to compete with Mark Wahlberg, who plays the biological father, for the affection of his stepchildren. This film will be released on Christmas day.
