Hot off his work on the "Rocky" spinoff "Creed", rumors have been circulating that Ryan Coogler is in talks for the job to direct the solo "Black Panther" film.
Coogler is one of the hottest names in Hollywood right now, and this is mainly based on the fact that "Creed", a movie that had very little promotional trailers or products, opened at a staggering US$40 million in its opening weekend.
Variety reports that this isn't the first time that Marvel came to Coogler to direct "Black Panther". Coogler stated that the timing wasn't right for him to take on another project as he was heavily invested in "Creed".
However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Coogler now has much more time on his hands since "Creed" has already premiered to rave reviews. The film has done so well and gotten such great reviews that there is award buzz surrounding it.
Coogler will be taking over a project that already has a leading actor attached in the form of Chadwick Boseman. Boseman will be playing the role of the new King of Wakanda T'Challa in the search of his father's killer.
Not much is known about the story for the solo "Black Panther" film, but the rumors report that the movie will be close timewise to the end of "Captain America: Civil War". It is here that T'Challa will be tested the most and torn between making a choice for himself or for the good of his country.
It is these particular choices that the character has to make which defines the character's motivation into doing what he is doing.
For those who are not familiar with the character, T'Challa is the youngest crowned prince of a fictional country named Wakanda. Wakanda is best known for having the largest vein of the fictional metal Vibranium.
This metal is second only to the other rare metal Adamantium, and many countries have tried to invade Wakanda to steal the metal only to fail time and time again. This is the second thing Wakanda is very famous for: its superhero / military leader Black Panther.
The Black Panther has the title of being Marvel Comics' first black superhero, and it paved the way for other heroes such as Luck Cage (aka Power Man) and Miles Morales (Ultimate Universe Spiderman).
However, while little is yet known about the solo "Black Panther" film, it is set to debut on Nov. 3, 2017. Thus, there is still time for the details to be ironed out.
