Actress Eva Longoria confessed that she sometimes feels rejected by the Latino community because she can't speak Spanish perfectly.
In an article by Fox News Latino, Eva Longoria revealed that she felt the need to improve her command of her native language because she sometimes feels the rejection from her community. She added that she wanted to be more fluent, so she wouldn't feel "undervalued."
"It's very difficult to live in our community if you don't speak Spanish---everyone will judge you," Longoria said in an interview.
She said that this fact is especially true, and many second- and third-generation Latinos will be able to identify to her character Ana Sofia in NBC's new primetime comedy "Telenovela". Jencarlos Canela, another cast in the series, agreed with Longoria and said that there are many Latinos who feel rejected by their community because they can't speak Spanish properly, that is why it would help if these people would be represented in a show.
Toronto Sun reported that Longoria will play the character of Ana Sofia who is a popular actress but tries so hard to maintain her status. She also added that the TV series will be in English and will tackle topics like falling in love, divorce, insecurity and a lot more.
The actress has always been passionate in working for projects that have deeper substance. She has worked in several campaigns and has openly defended her heritage when Trump criticized Latinos. In a recent event, Longoria became part of a national cause to raise awareness, especially among young Latinas and their families, about careers and opportunities in technology.
Televisa Foundation and the National Center for Women & Information Technology created a program called TECHNOLOchicas. The program shared inspirational stories of five women with different backgrounds. All these women share a passion for technology and believe in its potential to change the world.
"Listen to their stories. Watch them smile and share their lives. In all of them, you will find one thing in common: they believed in the life-changing power of technology, and they were committed to follow their dreams," the actress said. "Today, I want all young Latinas to realize that they can use technology to apply their skills and creativity for solving social problems."
These five stories will be shared through a series of campaigns and broadcasts. TECHNOLOchicas was made possible with the help of Apple, Microsoft, Google, Univision, Sphero, the Computing Alliance of Hispanic Serving Institutions and EMC Corporation.
