A number of movies have used the approach of featuring an after-credits scene to provide some insight on the events of the sequel. There are talks that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will use the same strategy to tease fans in its next line of films.
ComicBook reported that during a press conference in Los Angeles, director J.J. Abrams was asked whether there would be an after-credits scene in “The Force Awakens.”
“No, there’s not.” The director answered quickly. “All the scenes are actually in the movie.”
The press conference included Harrison Ford, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. MindaKaling was the surprise moderator for the presentation. Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o and Lawrence Kasdan were also present. However, Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the original “Star Wars” trilogy, was not around.
The cast shared more details about their characters and the storyline during the event, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Fisher, who plays Princess Leia, said that her character also needed to have a sense of humor like her. She also joked about her hairstyle.
Adam Driver, who plays the villain Kylo Ren, said that his character looks hilarious and that he is unpolished and unfinished. Screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan said that there has never been someone like Kylo Ren in the saga. The character is actually trying to settle his own inner issues and is unique in that sense.
“We have such short memories of huge events and mass genocide, and then we forget about it, it seems.” Driver said. “Finding these people, a lot of things have changed, but the circumstances are the same. I found that very true.”
Nyong’o, who plays the space pirate Maz Kanata, said that Yoda was her first love and would be a good idea for a film. Abrams thought that Maz and Yoda met at some point, although it will not be happening in “Episode 7.”
Abrams also confirmed that there will be no Ewoks in the upcoming film. However, he teased that some may have sneaked into the set, considering that there were so many of them in “Return of the Jedi.”
Although fans may be disappointed not to find any teasers at the end of “The Force Awakens,” they have a lot to look forward to in the form of trailers and promotional materials as more “Star Wars” films are slated to release until 2020. The next movie will be “Rogue One,” followed by “Episode VIII.”
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will launch on Dec. 18, 2015.
