Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) was endearing to fans for being the bastard son of respectable, Eddard Ned Stark. He was loved by fans in as much as he showed love for his half siblings, Rob, Sansa, Bran, Arya, and Rickon. Fans wept with him as Lady Catelyn Stark was very vocal that she did not find in herself a love for the bastard son. But as "Game of Thrones" unfolded, fans developed the strong belief that Jon Snow is not actually Ned Stark's illegitimate son, but is actually the son of his sister, Lyanna Stark, and Rhaegar Targaryen.
YouTuber, Robbie McD, made a compilation of scenes from the first five seasons of "Game of Thrones" that support the theory that Jon Snow is actually of the Targaryen blood. After all, Ned Stark was never heard calling Jon Snow his bastard son.
One of the clips compiled in the video showed the part where Sansa Stark and Littlefinger were talking about his aunt Lyanna. Littlefinger pointed out the fact that Rhaeger's love for her aunt sparked the rebellion. Sansa stressed that he loved her, but kidnapped and raped her. Littlefinger was silenced by this, seemingly thinking of something.
In another clip included in the compilation, was a scene where Robert Baratheon, who was very much in love with Lyanna, asked Ned to describe to her what Jon Snow's mother looked like. Ned avoided the question.
Ned and Jon Snow shared a poignant scene before they separated ways -- Ned going to the capital to be the hand to the king and Jon Snow to join the Night's Watch. "You may not have my name, but you have my blood," Ned told Jon Snow. Note that he did not say he was his bastard but rather "you have my blood."
Finally, Maester Ameon dropped a meaningful sentence during one conversation with Samwell Tully. "A Targaryen alone in the world, it's a terrible thing," Master Aemon said. On that queue, Jon Snow entered.
Robert had always called for the murder of all the remaining Targaryens. This could be the reason why Ned Stark would want to protect Jon Snow's real identity, especially that he is the son of Rhaegar, who snatched his beloved Lyanna from her. Ned Stark was also very vocal to object the murder of Daenerys Targaryen -- who could be Jon Snow's last relative -- even with King Robert ordering him.
In June, Watchers of the Wall reported about a casting call closely describing Arthur Dayne. The character was a great swordsman and friend of Rhaegar Targaryen, who was killed in the tower of Joy. This same tower was where Lyanna Stark died and where he asked Ned Stark to promise him one thing. Tie this with the current theory from YouTuber Robbie McD, that promise might have involved taking care of Jon Snow -- the product of Rhaegar's rape of her.
