Professional Australian tennis player, Samuel Groth, hit a 163.4 mph (263 kph) serve during an ATP event in Busan, South Korea according to media outlets.

The serve which was also an ace, broke the previous mark of 156 mph (251 kph) in 2011 held by the Croatian, Ivo Karlovic, for the fastest record serve in tennis according to SBNation.

ATP Tour said during the weekend that Groth, the 340th best tennis player in the world established the mark in a second-round match against Belarusian Uladzimir Ignatik.

Reuters in a report cited the ATP which said it does not officially recognize serving records because of the different radar guns used, although "the event was using approved equipment."
