There are rumors that George R.R. Martin has finally finished writing “Winds of Winter,” the sixth installment to the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series.
On his personal blog, the “Game of Thrones” author promoted his cameo appearance in an episode of Syfy’s “Z Nation,” which aired on Oct. 30, 2015. Martin was featured as a celebrity zombie who was shown to a collector inside a celebrity zombie room. The author was signing copies of a book with the title, “A Promise of Spring.” According to his captor, the zombified author was able to put his autograph on the copies, based only on his muscle memory. The captor further boasted that he has hundreds of copies of the new book, which will make him rich by offering these on eBay.
Christian Post wrote that many “Game of Thrones” fans believed that it was a subtle attempt by Martin to announce that “Winds of Winter” is already complete and will be releasing soon, most likely in spring 2016. Some fans responded to his post, stating that they understood what the author meant and that he is probably promising them something special in the spring, as the title suggested.
In the past several months, Martin and HBO, which produces the TV series “Game of Thrones,” has effectively been keeping the release date of “Winds of Winter” from fans. Season 6 of the TV show is set to launch in April 2016, and fans are getting more restless that the sixth installment has not yet been finished. Season 6 is supposed to be based on the sixth book, so the showrunners are actually running out of printed source material. However, the writers know the gist of the events in the upcoming book and continue to work with Martin, who is co-producer of the show.
Blogger BryndenBFish wrote on his blog Wars and Politics of Ice and Fire that based on Martin’s writing pace, he analyzed that the sixth book will probably release late in 2016 or 2017. This can mean that fans might know the ending of “Winds of Winter” on television, instead of on paper.
“Game of Thrones” is the first volume from the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, which was published in 1996. The fifth book in the series, “A Dance of Dragons,” was released in 2011. Martin has already published five of the seven novels intended for the series.
More updates and details on the release of “Winds of Winter” are expected soon.
