Mexican American singer Jenni Rivera is presumed dead after a plane crashed Sunday in Northern Mexico.
Six people were found dead inside a Learjet that crashed in Nuevo Leon, south of Monterrey and although authories have not confirmed Rivera's death yet, according to authorities there were no survivors. The plane had departed Monterrey at 3:30 a.m. following a concert that Rivera had performed in and she was headed to Toluca, Mexico. There was no cause given as of yet for the crashing of the plane.
"La diva de la banda," as the California native was widely called by fans, famous for her interpretations of regional Mexican music including norteño and banda became a trending news Sunday night.
Throughout her career Rivera sold over 15 million records She was also a major component of the reality TV show "I Love Jenni" on cable channel Mun2. Rivera's parents were Mexicans who migrated to the US and two of her five brothers, Lupillo and Juan Rivera, are also well known in the grupero music world.
Rivera made her debut in 1995 with the release of her album "Chacalosa" and her subsequent albums "We are Rivera" and "Farewell to Selena" (a tribute to the singer) helped increase her profile. At the end of the 1990s, she signed a record deal with Sony Music and released another two albums. In 2005, she finally established herself around the world with her album "Partier, Rebellious, and Darling." She won two Billboard Mexican Music Awards for Female Artist of the Year and Banda Album of the Year and was nominated for the Latin Grammy in 2002, 2008, and 2011.
