“Star Wars: Battlefront” finally launched on Nov. 17, 2015, just a few weeks before the big release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The game was quite successful in its first few days, breaking game publisher EA’s record for digital sales.
To address the comments of several gamers who thought that the game content was somewhat lacking, EA announced that it will be providing more free content via the “Battle of Jakku” DLC pack, which will become available on Dec. 1, 2015 for players who preordered the title. Other players can also get the DLC free of charge on Dec. 8.
ScreenRant stated that the DLC pack will provide two new maps, a new mode Turning Point, which is a 40-player game that will feature the Rebellion trying to gain control of the planet from the Empire. The mission actually takes place 29 years before the events in “The Force Awakens,” which will give players a glimpse of the events that led to the various stories in the movie.
According to EA, they will continue offering free DLC and support for “Star Wars: Battlefront.” There will also be new Star Cards and maps in the near future. The free content will be different from the season pass, which provides other bonuses for players. The season pass currently costs $50, which also offers more game content.
GamesRadar noted that the season pass will include 16 new maps, four more Heroes and Villains, for more game modes, 20 new pieces of tech like Star Cards and vehicles and a special emote. With the season pass and EA’s plans of unveiling more free DLC soon, players have the opportunity to keep their gaming experience fresh for a while. DICE, the group behind “Battlefield 4,” featured updates and new map variants for free, two years after the game released, so “Battlefront” is expected to have the same kind of treatment at least.
ScreenRant also mentioned that “Battlefront” will have to compete with other new games like “Halo 5: Guardians” and “Rainbow Six: Siege” in terms of DLC. EA has some advantage in momentum, considering that “Episode VII” is set to release soon, which will certainly drive more people into the “Star Wars” saga and related merchandise.
“Star Wars: Battlefront” is playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. More updates and details on the upcoming DLC and updates are expected in the following weeks.
