Belgian authorities are asking the country's social media users to keep mum on ongoing counter-terror operations in fear of a Paris-like attack.

The Belgian people one-upped police requests. Not only did they avoid talking about possible threats, they found humor in a hostile situation by using the #BrusselsLockdown hashtag on cat memes, pictures, and videos, including one from their police department.

The movement grew large enough to reach Twitter's "Moments" page.

"Belgian police asked residents not to share details of the #BrusselsLockdown via social media, civilians took over the hashtag and flooded it with pictures of their feline friends," read the Nov. 22 tweet, which was followed by countless cat pictures uploaded throughout the day.

Law enforcement remain in and around the Belgian capital in search of Salah Abdeslam, the suspected mastermind behind the Nov. 13 Paris attacks. This, after 19 raids resulted in 21 arrests over the weekend and what official consider "serious and imminent" threats.

It's hard to finding lighthearted stories amid Europe's biggest tragedy in recent memory, but the Belgian people have found a way. All it took was a few kittens. And a dacshund.
