A new report regarding 'Iron Man 4' has been released, but the question is, will Robert Downey Jr. reprise his role as Tony Stark?
In an article by Movie News Guide, there are rumors about the possibility of "Iron Man 4", but fans question whether Robert Downey Jr. will still be part of the movie. According to the report, Ty Simpkins who plays the character of Harley Keener, the boy who helped Tony take down Mandarin in the last instalment, would someday take on the role of "Iron Man."
In addition to the report, even if Robert Downey Jr. is not confirmed to be part of the fourth movie, it looks like the rumors about Simpkins being Downey's replacement might slowly be pushing through. The reason why Downey might not be part of the next film is because of some negotiation issues. The actor is reportedly talking with Marvel and is believed to be asking a lot to reprise his role as "Iron Man."
If the movie pushes through, then the idea would be around Simpkins' character, and he should be grown by that time so he could play the part of "Iron Man" well. Sources believe that if Simpkins turned out to be "Iron Man", then Downey would play an older Tony Stark as mentor to Keener.
During an interview with Deadline, Downey said that he is willing to re-think his decisions about not doing "Iron Man 4." There is just one condition that needs to be met before he agrees to be Tony Stark once again: Mel Gibson should direct the film.
"He has changed so much," Downey said. "He has changed, but at the same time, he's still Mel. He and I are so similar in so many ways. He really, honestly, is the first to admit his character defects and is just a great, great collaborative guy."
According to Parent Herald, if "Iron Man 4" is confirmed, the expected release date would be around 2020. The earliest date to shoot the film would be in 2018.
However, die-hard "Iron Man" fans would probably not be pleased to see a new character take on the role of what Downey is already known for. Even if the actor isn't signing any deals, there is always a chance that things would remain as they are.
"Despite his [Simpkins] impressive resume, it's a stretch to imagine that Marvel Studios believes he has the presence and charisma to replace Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man," said a source.
