For the first time after he left One Direction, Zayn Malik reveals the reason why he decided to walk away and pursue his solo career in music.

In July, Zayn Malik made a new record deal with RCA Records. The former One Direction member saw the opportunity as a chance to make "real music" and to be able to show his fans his genuine self. Now, Malik is ready to show what he's got with the upcoming release of his new single "Belfour."

In a report by Entertainment Weekly, Malik finally opened up and reveals the real reason why he left One Direction. The 22-year-old singer invited writer from The Fader, Duncan Cooper, in his house in London for a tell-all interview.

Malik said that the decision to leave the band came rather quickly as he realized one morning that he wants to "go home." The singer said that there was no room for him to experiment with his kind of music while in the band. He also revealed that the music they were making wasn't the exact representation he wanted for himself. There were also some difficulties with the management as they were convinced of what they want the band to be.

"I woke up on that morning, if I'm being completely honest with you, and was like, 'I need to go home,'" Malik said. "There was never any room for me to experiment creatively in the band. Whenever I would suggest something, it was like it didn't fit us. There was just a general conception that the management already had of what they want for the band, and I just wasn't convinced with what we were selling."

Malik confessed that the music he was singing while part of the famous boy band was not the kind of music he would personally listen too. And now with his solo career, he's more confident that he would be able to make music which he thinks is "cool."

According to Hollywood Life, Malik's current tempo in his music is influenced by RnB, rap and Bollywood. Something he grew up listening to. As far as the lyrics, he said that it was inspired by life experiences and things that he has been through in the last five years.

Apart from talking about his music, Malik also spoke about his split from Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards. He denied rumors that the break up happened via text. He went on saying that he credits the four years they have been together as a couple and respects her enough not to end things by text.

"If you could word it exactly this way, I'd be very appreciative. I have more respect for Perrie than to end anything over text message. I love her a lot, and I always will, and I would never end our relationship over four years like that. She knows that, I know that, and the public should know that as well," Malik said.
