"The Ghostbusters" reboot seems to have almost everyone from the previous films making their way into the movie one way or another.
However, one popular member of the extended team isn't quite yet confirmed. The character of the ghost Slimer has been rumored to have a cameo role once again similar to what he had in the first film.
Bloody Disgusting, a site dedicated to Horror films, verified with three different sources to conclude that the green ghost will be appearing in the reboot. The site states that Dan Castellaneta of "Simpsons" fame has been chosen to voice over the ghost.
This confirmation has now been proven to be untrue as movie director and co-writer Paul Feig took to Twitter and stated that Slimer is unfortunately not going to be in the film.
For those who do not know about the character, Slimer was the first ghost that the original Ghostbusters caught in the 1984 film. Slimer is made of pure ectoplasm and was haunting the Sedgewick Hotel in New York.
Slimer's popularity, however, stemmed from the spinoff cartoon show "The Real Ghostbusters." It was here where the slime ghost was shown as a sidekick/comic relief character of sorts. During the show's run, it seemed that most of the time Slimer ended up doing more harm than good, but not intentionally.
The pranks always seemed to involve Slimer and Peter Venkman, who was played by Bill Murray during the first two movies.
With Slimer's apparent no-show in the film it, will fall upon the other cast members from the first two movies to make cameos. Confirmed to be in the film are all three remaining original Ghostbusters, Bill Murray, Dan Akryod, and Ernie Hudson.
It has been confirmed, however, that the trio's roles will be limited to something small and they will not be fighting ghosts. Cinemablend also confirmed that Annie Potts, who played the Ghostbuster's secretary, Janine will also be making a cameo as well Sigourney Weaver who played Dana Barrett, Bill Murray's love interest in the first two films.
Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy are to lead the new generation of Ghostbusters along with their two recruits Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. Also in a surprise role the job of the Ghostbuster's secretary will now be filled by Chris Hemsworth, who is taking time off from being Thor to take calls about ghosts.
The movie is currently in post-production and is set to debut on July 15, 2016.
