Ridley Scott's sequel to his sci-fi adventure 2012 film "Prometheus" has been re-titled, again.
According to the report in Indiewire, Scott talked to Variety's Scott Foundas during the AFI Film Festival wherein the director addressed the sequel as "Alien: the Covenant" instead of the previously re-titled "Alien: The Paradise Lost."
"I was going to be doing what will be called 'Alien: Covenant,' which starts shooting next February, and we were struggling then with the screenplay there and then there was a phone call, somebody saying, 'Listen, we've got this thing which is completely written called 'Martian' and I said, 'Huh.' And I sped read it in an hour and by mid-afternoon, I talked to Fox and said, 'I need to talk to 'Drew," the Director said in the interview via Indiewire.
Previously, Screen Rant reported that "Prometheus 2" will be titled "Alien: Paradise Lost" wherein the word "Paradise" is deemed to be the translation for the Engineer's home or the one who created the human species. The entertainment news outlet also pointed that the said title was a clear reference to John Milton's epic about the fall of mankind which could very well be the storyline in the "Prometheus" sequel.
However, with the film renamed again, Screen Rant cited that the title "The Covenant" might pertain to the union of "philosophy," "science" and "theology" which would connect the Engineers, the Humans, and the alien creatures called Xenomorphs.
The film "Prometheus" focused on the story of the origin of mankind wherein a team travels across the universe before eventually finding a structure on a planet that houses a "monolithic statue" of a "humanoid head." However, the group faced the terror of an alien species.
As mentioned in the earlier Screen Rant release, the upcoming sequel will pick-up from the events of its predecessor wherein surviving characters Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and android David (Michael Fassbender) will be heading to the Engineer's home world.
The movie will begin its principal photography in February 2016 with the location set in Australia.
As reported by IGN, the filming of "Prometheus 2" or "Alien: the Covenant" was prioritized, resulting to the delay of director Neill Blomkamp's supposed to be fifth installment of the original "Alien" franchise.
"Alien: the Covenant" is scheduled to be released in a yet unspecified date in 2017.
