The sequel to the hit "Antman" now has an official title and perhaps a writer to the film.
According to Screenrant, the film will officially be titled "Antman and The Wasp" and several key members of the cast and crew are scheduled to return. One such important member of the crew is writer Adam McKay who revised the script for the first "Antman" film after the original writer Edgar Wright left the project.
Cinemablend reports that both Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are scheduled to return as Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne respectfully. Rumors are circulating that the film will delve into the chemistry between the two characters and how they are as a super hero duo. Paul Rudd will also be appearing as Scott Lang in the "Captain America: Civil War" film where his character has been reported to be siding with Captain America.
The "Antman" movie was a nominal success in the United States but was a huge triumph in the overseas market. The movie went on to gross over US$500 million during its theatrical run. Former Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was unsure if the movie would even get a sequel at first, but after seen the overall numbers there was no doubt the interest for the character was there.
However, Feige did state that it would be hard to fit in the sequel for the new "Antman" film as the Marvel is expanding its cast very fast and that may have problems keeping up the high quality of films the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become known for. Feige does state though that the studio is committed to keeping the fans of the MCU happy and they will continue to provide top quality films.
Currently, there is no news on what the story for the film will be, so at this point anything reported is speculation. But rumors have it that after the events of the first "Antman" film, Hope van Dyne is given the Wasp suit that was built by her father Henry Pym. While it was already established that she can use the Antman suit in the first film, the wasp suit controls very similarly to the Antman suit so the movie will not focus on her training.
While the movie did touch that Hope's mother Janet van Dyne was the original Wasp, the movie made it appear that the suit that she uses was more similar to the Antman suit. The suit that was presented at the end of the first movie seemed to be in tune with what the comics have for the Wasp character.
"Antman and the Wasp" is set for a July 6, 2018, debut and will be part of Marvel's Phase 3.
