A new Batman animated feature is due out next year entitled "Batman: Bad Blood."
Superhero Hype reports that the feature will be a direct-to-home video release and will be released on January 19, 2016 for digital download and on both Blu-ray and DVD formats on February 2.
The story of "Batman: Bad Blood" begins as Batman has been mysteriously missing for quite some time and several members of the Bat family have been taking care of Gotham in his place. The team is led by former Batman protégé Nightwing (voiced by Sean Maher), who has taken the role of Batman in his absence, and comprises the current Robin Damien Wayne (Stuart Allen) and new comers Batgirl (Yvonne Strahovski) and Batwing (Gaius Charles).
According to Comic Book, the Bat team is struck with several dilemmas during the film as Gotham is under siege by several new and powerful villains while they are determining what has happened to Batman (voiced once again by Jason O'Mara). Several of Batman's greatest villains are also confirmed to be in the film, including the Dark Knight's on again, off again lover Talia al Ghul (Morena Baccarin). During the course of the film, several hints on Batman's location will be slowly given to the team as they try to find out if Bruce Wayne has actually gone over to the dark side.
The newcomers on the team, Batgirl and Batwing, are unique to the film as the version of Batgirl seems to be very different from any of her previous comic book variations. Her costume now sports a red bat insignia with red eye covers. However, it seems that this version of Batgirl is not afraid to use lethal force, as one of her lines in the trailer has her saying that she isn't part of the Bat family's non-killing mentality.
Batwing, on the other hand, is a new character altogether and seems similar to that of the Batman Beyond's Batman, as he is in a technological suit. The suit allows him access to a whole arsenal of new weapons, as well as the ability to fly. It has been confirmed that Batwing is actually the son of long-time Wayne Enterprise Employee Lucius Fox (voiced by "Ghost Busters" veteran Ernie Hudson).
The deluxe Blu-ray version of the film will also come with a limited edition numbered Nightwing figurine, as well as several featurettes of popular Batman-related TV shows. The deluxe version will also feature a preview to the next DC animated movie "Justice League vs. Teen Titans."
