Donald Trump was called "racist" by comedian Larry David during his SNL monologue. However, as it turns out, there are some twists in the controversial TV guesting.
According to an article by Hollywood Life, Donald Trump was right in the middle of his monologue when a person from the audience heckled the billionaire businessman. As it turns out, it was comedian Larry David who shouted "Trump's a racist!"
Truth is, everything was part of the script. As Trump stood alongside his impersonators Darell Hammond and Taran Killiam, David protested from the audience.
"What are you doing, Larry?" Trump asked after he was "harassed" by the comedian.
"I heard if I yelled that I would get $5,000," said David.
For those who do not know, Trump's guesting on Saturday Night Live wasn't particularly welcomed, at least not by all. Before Trump appeared on stage, there were already hundreds of protestors who rallied from Fifth Avenue to the Rockefeller Center, where the NBC studio is.
With "Dump Trump" banners, the protestors demanded for the show to drop Trump that night. However, the group was unsuccessful and the show continued as scheduled. Aside from the rally, the group Deport Racism reportedly offered $5,000 to anyone who is willing to heckle Trump.
Although his protest was part of the script, David will still get the $5,000, said a report from the Business Insider. Last week, the organization released a statement as to why they are offering a "bounty" on Trump's SNL guesting.
"NBC's refusal to drop Trump has put us in the position of dropping $5,000 cold hard cash to anyone who will yell out 'Trump is a racist' during the live broadcast of 'Saturday Night Live,'" said an organizer from Deport Racism PAC Santiago Cejudo.
Since NBC announced Trump's guesting, the network has drawn a lot of criticisms, especially from the Latino community, which has been against the presidential candidate since he made comments about Mexican immigrants being "rapists" and "criminals."
However, although there's a call to drop Trump's guesting in SNL, the protests had no impact on the ratings. In fact, thanks to Trump, SNL managed to score their highest rating after four years.
"SNL averaged a 6.6 rating and 16 percent share in metered-market households on Saturday night. Those are the show's best overnight numbers since Jan. 7, 2012, when Charles Barkley hosted with musical guest Kelly Clarkson," stated a statement from the network.
