Cleveland Cavaliers Superstar LeBron James is wearing shorter and tighter shorts this season, all to send a positive message to the fans and to the kids watching him.
Previously, a report by Wall Street Journal pointed that James is wearing "shorter" and "skinnier" shorts this season which, after research, was found to be two inches shorter than those that he wore last season.
Moreover, although there was the NBA rule which requires game shorts to be worn not lower than one inch above the top knee and compression shorts should not be visible, James continuously rock the shortened and tightened ones.
However, as it turns out, there is a reason to James change in uniform than just a mere fashion statement.
In an interview by cleveland.com, James reveled that his choice of uniform is to show and emphasize professionalism which he mentioned as his way to become a role model to kids and his fans.
"I'm always thinking about ways I can be of help. That's what it's about, making sure you're doing your part," James told Cleveland.com
Moreover, the Akron native's goal of encouraging professional appearance does not only come with the shorter shorts and tighter jersey. The report also pointed that James is wearing a sport coat whenever he is going to the Quicken Loans arena in order to reiterate this cause and foster a professional and business atmosphere.
Through this, the four-time MVP and two-time NBA champion is hoping that he would encourage kids to determine what is fashionable and acceptable while also showing them that looking professional is a good thing.
"I have a calling, man. Everything I do is for the people I love. I was just brought up that way," James added.
The report at cleveland.com has described James as one of the most "socially conscious" athlete who does not fear on voicing his opinions on today's issues.
James' trimming of his uniform to send a good message to kids is not only the star's way of bringing a positive change. Being the biggest name in the league with global following, the Cleveland icon has been supportive of various activities that impact the community.
Just last August, James, through his LeBron James Family Foundation, has promised to give four-year College scholarships to 1,100 Akron kids who have "challenging backgrounds like his."
What do you think of James' action on trimming his uniform to look more professional? Do you think all athletes should follow his lead? Should the league make a shift to emphasize professionalism just like when it requires athletes' dress code? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
