Judge Tells Bindi Irwin to Prove Dad Steve is Dead to Claim 'Dancing With the Stars' Pay

For fans of the Crocodile Hunter, everyone knows who the late Steve Irwin is - except perhaps a certain American judge.

Bindi Irwin, the Australian wildlife expert's daughter and currently a contestant on "Dancing With The Stars," has recently been caught in a legal snag in the process of arranging her pay for her involvement in "DWTS".

"Lawyers for the show submitted a minor's contract to an L.A. Superior Court judge," TMZ reported, "it's required because Bindi is 17."

"Her mom Terri signed a form stating she gives up all rights to any money her daughter will make on the show," the entertainment news source added.

However, the judge requested for the same document from the teener's father, who died from a stingray attack in 2006.

"The judge said without proof of Steve giving up his rights to Bindi's money, 'the court is unable to find that it is in the best interest of the minor to be bound by the terms of the contract,'" TMZ said.

It's not certain whether the matter could be fixed by submitting the former TV show host's death certificate.

"Under US law, contracts with minors must be processed by a judge; during that process both parents or guardians would usually waive any legal right to the minor's income," The Sydney Morning Herald noted.

TMZ said further that the younger Irwin's lawyers will do all they can to get the judge's approval. She stands to get a total of $230,000 from her "DWTS" gig if her legal kinks get ironed out.

"The teenager is said to be guaranteed a fee of $125k for appearing on the show, but her pay packet gets a boost depending on how far she makes it in the competition," MailOnline said.

"By making it to weeks three and four she gets an additional $10k per week, which rose to an extra $15,000 for week five and to $20,000 for weeks six and seven," the British publication added.

Based on her performances on the dancing competition, so far, as well as pundit predictions, it appears Irwin and her partner on the show, Derek Hough, may win the grand prize.

"They are the only couple in the series so far to receive '10' scores from all three judges twice," SMH recalled. "They were scored 'perfect 10's' for a rumba and an Argentine tango.
