Four people at University of California, Merced, were stabbed by a man on Wednesday morning.
Although reports pointed that the attacked ones were students, UC Merced confirmed through Twitter that two of them were students, one of them was a staff member and one of them a vendor. The campus has not confirmed the suspec's identity or if he was part of the student body.
The incident ocurred around 8 a.m. local time and took place in school's clasroom and office bulding.
Jacob Rodriguez, who was painting in the hallway across from the classroom where the incident started, witnessed the events.
"We thought it was a fight going on and we heard people screaming. My co-worker opened the door to see if there was a fight going on and if they needed help. He said the teacher looked at him and said 'no,' and then the guy ran out and attacked my co-worker", he told NBC.
The witness added he saw the suspect was brandishing a kitchen knife that appeared to be about nine inches long.
The suspect was chased by the Campus Police, who shot him and died succumbing to his injuries,according to school report. Two of the victims were flown to area hospitals for treatment, while the others were treated in the scene.
Later, UC Merced Chancellor Dorothy Leland released the following statement:
Campus expects to to resume normal operations on Friday, according to the school's Chancellor.
