Mexico makes a historical decision towards its drug policy. The National Supreme Court of Justice has legalized the use of recreational marijuana and its production. Comercialization and distribution is still prohibited.
The decision was made on Wednesday, the project was approved with four votes in favour and one against.
The four people who asked the court for permission will be the ones granted with the allowance of the production and consumption of marijuana. This sets a precedent to other Mexicans to go to court and ask for the approval.
This decision will put the subject up for discussion in the Deputy Chamber and other federal organizations to legalize it but not only for a some people, but for the general public.
In United States, there was an opposite event in contrast. Ohio voters rejected the iniative to legalize recreational and medical marijuana.
While Mexico could be the second Latin American country to legalize marijuana (Uruguay was the first one), Ohio is the latest state in the US to legalize it for recreational use.
