The "Assassin's Creed" movie has long been in the production process, but it hasn't stopped the enthusiasm of star Michael Fassbender as he has said that he is "absolutely interested" in building the franchise.

The actor recently talked with Screen Daily about the progression of the film's long production process. The actor actually signed up to co-produce the film with the game franchise developer and publisher Ubisoft back in 2011, and the actor has had to deal with a lot of delays with the film's release date, which is now slated for December 21, 2016.

There is good news, however, coming from the set of the film. New photos have been posted on DMC's official Twitter account showing Fassbender's commitment to the film. The picture shows the actor with his back to the camera next to a sign on the wall saying "progress requires sacrifice", which for some would completely sum up the film's journey to this point.

The film is currently being filmed in Malta, Italy and will see Fassbender play the part of Callum Lynch, who is similar to the character Desmond Miles in the video games.

For those who are not familiar with the story of "Assassin's Creed", Desmond Miles was your everyday person when he was abducted by a mysterious organization and forced to use a machine called Animus. With the help of the Animus, Desmond is able to relive his past life, in which he was a high-level assassin in a guild that rivaled the Knights Templar.

The organization that abducted Desmond is actually attempting to get information on how his ancestor hid ancient artifacts, which could be the key to saving the world from Armageddon.

With that being said, the picture from the Twitter page also shows that Fassbender has three distinct scars on the back of his neck. This most likely indicates that it is from the use of the Animus technology.

Thus far, the movie is getting a lot of hype, and most of the production team that was behind the original "Assassin's Creed" game is also lending their talent to the movie, according to Screen Rant. Considering the time and effort the team has put into the film, many are calling it one of the rare video game-based movies that actually has merit.
